Spreading Festive Cheer

The meeting room at the Sandy Bay Parish Centre was looking a bit like a festive supermarket as students from Mount Carmel  College joined with members of the Holy Spirit Conference of St Vincent de Paul Society recently to pack Christmas hampers for the needy.

Society president, Danny Reardon, was most gratified by the response from the Sandy Bay/Taroona Parishion and Mount Carmel College and for the assistance of Ed Gauden at Food Bank. With needs growing all the time, this combined effort brought some Christmas cheer to families and individuals from Taroona, Mt Nelson, Battery Point, Dynnyrne, South Hobart and Sandy Bay.

Money and goods were donated and an amazing  $11,000.00 worth of groceries was purchased from Food Bank at a big discount.

Over seventy hampers of necessities and a few festive luxuries were assembled to be delivered by Society members form the back of a van provided gratis by Co-Op Motors.

The Society is always looking for new members. Men or women who are interested can contact the Parish Secretary, Claire Manthorpe on (03) 6224 1423.
