Spanning the Generations.

Old and young can relate well together, but often in this age of nuclear families, children don’t get the opportunity to talk to elderly folk much.

St Leonards in Northern Tasmania has a unique situation of a Nursing Home, Mount Esk, sitting right next to a primary school, Larmenier Catholic Primary School.

This provides a wonderful learning experience for the children and an opportunity for them to develop compassion and concern for others, and for the residents, the children brighten up their day by entertaining them and letting them know that others care.

On Tuesday December 7, Kindergarten and Grade Two students brought their musical talents over to share some Christmas cheer. They performed their songs and then gave a lovely handmade bookmark to each member of the audience and exchanged a few friendly words.

One happy lady was Sister Augustine pbvm (above) who doesn't look anything near her 96 years!

Another group of students entertained residents with ferrets and guinea pigs from their school farm.
