Radiothon 2012

Between now and 10pm on June 30 ultra106.5fm is hoping to raise $140,000 during the radio stations major annual fund raiser. General manager Nathaniel Garvin is excited about the appeal saying “Radiothon is always an exciting time on radio, and it’s encouraging to see how generous people in Tassie are”.

With its broadcasting licence issued by the Australian Broadcasting Association in 1978, ultra106five is designated a community radio station, with specific requirements regarding sponsorship and community involvement.  ‘Sponsorship’ (known on commercial radio as ‘advertising’) is limited to only five minutes per hour. In addition, community radio stations regularly raise financial support from the local community. So ultra106five runs fundraising appeals throughout the year, plus a major annual Radiothon in June, relying on regular listeners to support the station financially.

The number of listeners to ultra106five has grown strongly over the past three years so that now 43,000 people listen every month in Greater Hobart. The listening community is very supportive, donating generously to Radiothon every year. Your support is also very welcome as this year we head towards a target of $140,000.

Radiothon 2012 is themed ‘A Better Day’, as supporters are reminded that their contribution makes it possible for many thousands of people to have a better day. At ultra106five, Christian values are the predominant motivator behind everything that happens. Announcers prepare material to inform, encourage and build up listeners.  Inspirational snippets are played, along with parenting and marriage tips. In addition, every song is subject to rigorous checking to ensure every element of on-air content is child-safe. If the lyrics are suspect, the song does not get airplay.
