Lucky St Therese’s!

St Therese’s Catholic School recently hosted Australia’s first Children’s Laureate author and illustrator, Alison Lester, who came and engaged children across the whole school for the day.

Alison has written and illustrated over 25 picture books, including her latest Sophie Scott Goes South which follows a little girl’s trip on the Aurora Australis to Antarctica. She entertained the children by reading her stories, drawing for them and sharing anecdotes of her life and travels. The lucky students were spell bound!

Some of the art students made with Alison will form part of a forthcoming book.

The role of Children’s Laureate means Alison is undertaking a national tour. While in Tasmania, she worked at Kingston Library, St Therese’s Catholic School and then at Bruny Island District School.

Her generosity, creativity and down to earth friendliness were much appreciated by students and staff alike.
