Fr Rob to feature at upcoming Tasmanian Catholic Youth Festival

UPDATE: The Tasmanian Catholic Youth Festival has been postponed.

Father Rob Galea, the Maltese-born young Australian priest and global performer, whose life will soon be the subject of a Hollywood movie, will be a presenter at the upcoming Tasmanian Catholic Youth Festival in early May.

The charismatic recording artist, who once appeared as a contestant on Australia’s X Factor, regularly gives motivational talks to young people in schools and parishes across Australia.

Hollywood recently came knocking for Fr Rob, with the rights of his book, Breakthrough, A Journey from Desperation to Hope, purchased by film producers in the United States for a planned feature-length film.

The Director of the Office of Youth Evangelisation, Tomasz Juszczak, said it will be fantastic that Fr Rob will be present at the Tasmanian Catholic Youth Festival (TCYF) as he “brings a real vibrancy to the faith, which is appealing to young people”.

The TCYF, which will be held on May 4 at St Brendan Shaw College in Devonport and on May 6 at Guilford Young College’s Performing Arts Centre in Glenorchy, will include a variety of workshops, music, prayer and fellowship opportunities.

The festival will also include an interactive exhibition showcasing the Catholic faith in Tasmania.

“Many people think of the Church as old and not very interesting. TCYF is a great way for young people to experience the joy the faith has to offer and be inspired,” Mr Juszczak said.

“I would recommend the festival to anyone – it is pitched at a level any young person can get.”
