Christmas time to rise to the #adventchallenge

Taking time to slow down during one of the busiest seasons of the year is part of the  #adventchallenge, launched by Catholic Youth Ministry at the start of Advent.

“Advent is always such an interesting contrast because in the secular world in December everything is busy and coming to the end of the year, whereas Advent is actually the start of the Church year," Catholic Youth Ministry Director Rachelle Smith said.

"So the call in Advent is actually to slow down and take time to focus on how we can welcome Jesus into our hearts a little bit more."

Aiming to make it as easy as possible for people to do something special for Advent each day amongst their other Christmas commitments, the challenge includes a calendar of suggestions and activities for people to tap into in the north and south of the State, in line with the Advent themes of hope, love, joy and peace.

As an extra challenge ideas, achievements and encouragement can then be shared daily through social media via #adventchallenge.

"The idea is to do as many challenges as you can,” Ms Smith said.

"The # extra challenge is to try to share on social media what your challenge was, to encourage others and  to share the weekly themes of hope, love, joy and peace, out in the world amongst the craziness.
