Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2015 Adelaide

Three thousand, five hundred young Australians gathered in Adelaide at the beginning of this month in a vibrant display of the vitality, youthfulness and spirit-filled Church we are blessed with here in Australia. Among them were twenty-five enthusiastic young Tasmanians from Kingston-Channel, Moonah-Lutana, Cathedral and Launceston parishes.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God,” was the theme of the gathering which opened up much discussion about being our most authentic selves against sometimes challenging cultural trends. There were many opportunities for workshops with inspiring and engaging international and national speakers, including: Steve Angrisano, Jason Evert, Fr Chris Ryan mgl, Sr Hilda Scott, and Fr Rob Galea. There were concerts, social justice activities, reconciliation, expos, conversations, leadership centre and prayer. Each morning and evening the entire contingent gathered for large plenary gatherings which included hearing from young people, key note presentations, music and inspiring moments of authentic prayer.

The energy of this gathering was off the charts and the movement of the Spirit in this place was palpable. One of the most significant gifts of such a gathering is the support young people find in one another that they are not alone in their faith. Inspired by the fellowship in faith, energy, prayer and inspiring input, our young Tasmanians are looking forward to the opportunities that lay ahead on pilgrimage to World Youth Day 2016 and would encourage other young Tasmanians to join them and experience the support and youthfulness of a vibrant Church on such a large scale.

I made new friends and renewed my faith. But my favourite part was singing in unison with 3,500 crazy, faith-filled young people - Bernadette

ACYF was a wonderful way to strengthen my faith. I loved listening to so many inspirational priests and sisters. I also enjoyed celebrating being Catholic with 3000 young people - Amelia
