At Centacare we provide a wide range of services to all Tasmanians, which include, counseling, education, housing, homelessness, tenancy support, family support, refugee settlement and parenting programs.

Our aim is to assist Tasmanian families to have strong and healthy relationships and a fulfilling lifestyle.

We are committed to respond to the needs of disadvantaged or marginalized individuals, families and the community by providing services which will enhance human dignity and freedom and enable people to realize their full potential.

At Centacare Tasmania our particular strength is in the family centred approach. 

We offer a wide range of programmes to support families across the state which include specialist and family counselling services, life skill and educational programmes for parents, families and individuals.

We offer many educational programmes including: 

  • Rural Parenting Groups, PET (Parent Effectiveness Training)
  • Family Life Education
  • Natural Family Planning
  • Magic 123 

We aim to support healthy family relationships by offering family and individual counseling state-wide with specialist counselors available in a range of areas. Our programmes are child and family focused.

We also offer Group programmes covering issues from parenting to adult anger management on a regular basis.

At Centacare Tasmania we support our clients though our Housing Services in many ways. This include assisting our clients with accommodation issues, housing advocacy and practical life skill improvements.

Our services are offered under the following Programmes.

Private Rental Tenancy Support Service (PRTSS) provides advocacy support for individuals and families in rental distress and is available state-wide. Clients can self refer or be supported to refer to this programme.

Centacare Transitional Support Services (CTSS) provides advocacy, budget training, family support and a range of support addressing issues impacting on homelessness for clients moving from shelters into permanent housing. Southern support is for women only northern support is for men and women. Referral to this programme is refuge based.

STAY is a specialist intervention tenancy support program run in partnership with the Australian Red Cross for homeless people or people at risk of homelessness with high and complex needs. Referrals are only accepted through Mental Health Services, Department of Justice, Housing Tasmania, DYCFS and Special Homelessness Services.

AK Young Women’s Emergency Accommodation provides emergency accommodation for young women aged 13 to 20. Self referral or agency referrals are available.

Centacare Tasmania assists Humanitarian Entrants in many ways, including assistance in settlement, life skill training, advocacy support and social interaction.  

Our Programmes are offered in certain locations across the State. 

HSS (Humanitarian Settlement Service) caseworkers, with the help of volunteers, provide initial settlement support to new Humanitarian Entrants for the first 6 to 12 months of their new life in Australia.  This programme is offered in Southern Tasmania. 

SGP (Settlement Grant Projects) provide ongoing support for a range of issues after the initial settlement period.  This service is available Statewide.

Volunteers are an integral part of the support given to new families when they arrive. Centacare is a registered volunteering organisation for Centrelink purposes. A wide range of support activities are undertaken by our volunteers, who are a valued and vital part of our work.
